Blogging, Podcasting and Invisible Communities

Ryan, a friend of mine and co-designer of iswapyou, has a new podcast called Ichiraku Ramen. It’s a Naruto podcast, and a total nerdgasm of one at that…

What really amazes me about this podcast is the lengths they can go to reach their listeners. The show mp3s are available on their page 24/7/365, and so is their voicemail provided by snapvine. They encourage commenting and discussion through their blog and voicemail.

Essentially they’ve created a place with no houses, apartments or walls that is somehow just as real as summer camp or a retirement community in Palm Springs, and just as much fun as a good morning radio show. That is, if you’re a Naruto geek. All this from four guys with nothing but a PC, a microphone, and an inexpensive USB mixer.

What do you think makes a good podcast? Is this the “radio show of tomorrow”?
